West Jetty Walkway Improvement Project

Site Plan of Project Area

Project Overview

Construction of an accessible pathway along the west jetty was completed on September 20, 2013. The project resurfaced, regraded, broadened, and paved the existing west jetty trail and significantly improved accessibility along the west jetty. Funding for this construction project was provided by a $250,000 California Coastal Conservancy grant.

In addition to funding the improvement project on the existing jetty trail, the Coastal Conservancy grant provided funding for design and engineering of a larger project which would create an accessible walkway from the A-dock area to the newly paved west jetty trail. The project was predicated on being donor funded. Public amenities (benches, plazas, overlooks and plaques) would be sold to donors and placed along the walkway and provide funding for the hardscape improvements. The fundraising for the larger, donor-funded project has been put on hold while the Port District focuses on tsunami disaster recovery projects.

The Santa Cruz Port District continues to maintain a list of potentially interested donors, however, a timeline for implementation has not yet been determined.
