Dredge Haulout Project to Begin July 2026
LAUNCH RAMP CLOSURE JULY 7 & 8, 2026
Release Date: June 11, 2026
Location: Santa Cruz Harbor Launch Ramp
The Santa Cruz Port District's Dredge Haulout Project is scheduled to begin in early July 2026. The project involves removing the District's dredge from the water for inspection, maintenance, and repairs that are necessary to support ongoing dredging operations within Santa Cruz Harbor and the federal navigation channel. Since the dredge has been in continuous service since 2016, this haulout represents a significant maintenance milestone and is not a routine annual activity.
The launch ramp is currently anticipated to be closed on July 7 and July 8, 2026, to accommodate haulout operations. These dates are subject to change based on weather, equipment availability, and operational conditions, however, boaters should plan accordingly and avoid scheduling launches or retrievals during this period. Additional notifications will be provided as the closure dates approach.
The dredge and associated equipment will be staged within the launch ramp parking lot for the duration of the project, which is anticipated to last approximately 8 weeks. Due to the size and complexity of the operation, additional temporary launch ramp closures may be required during key phases of the haulout and relaunch process.
IMPACTS
For public safety, access and parking along the east side of the launch ramp parking lot will be restricted for the duration of the project. Heavy equipment will be operating in the launch ramp area and boaters may experience intermittent delays during launching and retrieval activities.
Parking in the launch ramp area will be significantly reduced due to contractor and dredge staging requirements. Users are encouraged to arrive early and allow additional time to locate parking.
Bicycle and pedestrian traffic may be subject to temporary detours around active work areas. All users should follow posted signage and directions provided by Port District staff and contractors.
All users are encouraged to:
- Plan ahead and allow extra time for parking, launching, and retrieval.
- Monitor Port District notices regarding temporary launch ramp closures.
- Stage gear in advance to streamline ramp use.
- Follow all posted signage and instructions from Port District staff.
- Exercise caution around active construction and staging areas.
The Port District appreciates your patience and cooperation while this important maintenance project is completed. Performing this haulout is a critical component of maintaining the District's dredging program, which helps ensure safe navigation and continued access to Santa Cruz Harbor.
