LAUNCH RAMP CONSTRUCTION TO BEGIN NOVEMBER 4, 2025

Construction to repair the sinkhole and related damage at the Santa Cruz Harbor launch ramp is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, November 4, 2025.

The repair project, which was recently awarded to Granite Construction in the amount of $924,000, will address significant infrastructure damage that occurred earlier this year. Work will include demolition of damaged concrete, backfilling and stabilization of the sinkhole area with controlled low-strength material, installation of a below-grade cutoff wall to prevent future scour, and reconstruction of the ramp’s approach apron, paving, and utilities. Construction will be scheduled around favorable tide conditions and is expected to continue for several weeks.

IMPACTS

For public safety, access to the north side of the launch ramp will be restricted throughout construction. Heavy equipment will be operating in the launch ramp area, and as a result, boaters may experience intermittent delays during launching and retrieval. The Port District and its contractor are committed to maintaining launch access throughout construction, but users should anticipate periodic disruptions as work progresses.

The contractor’s staging area will occupy “C” parking spaces adjacent to the launch ramp. During construction, tenants with “C” parking permits may utilize any available parking space within the harbor, provided their permit is displayed.

Bicycle and pedestrian traffic will be detoured onto Lake Avenue for the duration of construction. Sidewalk access along the project area will remain open to slip renters accessing L through O Docks only.

Launch ramp capacity will remain significantly reduced, with only two lanes available. Boaters should anticipate congestion and potential delays during peak periods. All users are encouraged to:

• Plan ahead and allow extra time for launching and retrieval.
• Ensure that your vehicle and trailer are occupying one lane only.
• Stage gear in advance to streamline ramp use.
• Consider launching during off-peak hours when possible.
• Be patient and courteous to fellow boaters and staff.
