NEARSHORE HAZARDS NEAR WHARF

As the boating season kicks off, the Port District would like to remind all mariners to avoid the nearshore area adjacent to the Santa Cruz Municipal Wharf and Main Beach, where navigational hazards remain following the December 23, 2024, wharf collapse.

Several partially submerged pilings and scattered debris are present east of the wharf. These hazards pose serious risks to vessels and ground tackle and should be avoided until salvage efforts are complete.

The City of Santa Cruz, in coordination with the U.S. Coast Guard, has contracted a marine salvage team to remove the debris. This complex operation will involve deploying an ocean-going barge and crane, and due to the size and sensitivity of the project, work is expected to begin during a favorable weather window in the coming months.

Avoid the area until hazards are removed. Updates will be posted as they become available from the City.
