Murray Street Bridge Seismic Retrofit and Barrier Replacement Project Update – September 19, 2025

The City of Santa Cruz’s Murray Street Bridge Seismic Retrofit and Barrier Replacement Project remains in full swing. As part of the project, the Port District’s contractor, Cushman Contracting Corporation (Cushman), has recently completed reconstruction of the southern portion of FF-Dock. While minor electrical work and punch list items remain, the new facility is fully operational, and previously displaced vessels will be able to return soon.

The northern portion of FF-Dock has been demolished, and vessels formerly berthed in that area have been relocated. Cushman’s demobilization efforts on the west side are expected to continue through Friday, September 26, 2025.

In addition, the FF-Dock hand launch ramp is undergoing minor repairs and will be placed back in service on Monday, September 22, 2025. We appreciate your patience and cooperation while this work is completed.

As a reminder, the City’s contractor, Shimmick Construction, continues work beneath the Murray Street Bridge.

  • Intermittent partial channel closures under the bridge began on August 4, 2025.
  • Closures will be temporary and only affect one side of the channel at a time.
  • Access to the north harbor will remain open at all times.
  • Flag boats will be on scene to direct vessel traffic through the open side of the channel and away from the work zone.

Boaters should use caution when transiting beneath the bridge, be prepared for possible delays, and follow the instructions of flag boats or other safety personnel.
