Murray Street Bridge Seismic Retrofit and Barrier Replacement Project Update – August 25, 2025
As part of the City of Santa Cruz’s Murray Street Bridge Seismic Retrofit and Barrier Replacement Project, the City’s contractor, Shimmick Construction, will begin underground utility work along Lake Avenue at the first entrance into the harbor (near Johnny’s Harborside Restaurant and the Boatyard).
Phase 1 of the work, consisting of test excavation / potholing, is scheduled to begin the week of August 25, 2025. Phase 2, consisting of more extensive underground utility work, will occur the following week. During this time, access to harbor businesses will be maintained, but the first entrance into the harbor from Lake Avenue will be impacted.
Temporary traffic control measures will be implemented by the City’s contractor in accordance with the attached plan and will include:
- Temporary lane closures between 8 AM and 5 PM.
- Access to harbor businesses will be maintained, but may be detoured to alternate entrances along Lake Avenue.
- All temporary signs and equipment will be removed from the street at the end of each workday.
- Safety measures for cyclists and pedestrians will be provided.
