As a result of an earthquake off the coast of Kamchatka, Russia, on July 29, 2025, significant tsunami surge activity is being observed in the Santa Cruz Harbor. A tsunami advisory remains in effect.
This increased surge activity was first observed around 1:00 AM on July 30, 2025, and is likely to persist over the next 12 to 24 hours. The full extent of any damage to harbor infrastructure is currently being evaluated.
DOCK ACCESS INFORMATION
Dock access will remain limited until the tsunami advisory is lifted by the National Tsunami Warning Center. Power and water will remain shut off to the docks until a comprehensive inspection of the utility infrastructure is performed.
ENTRANCE CHANNEL HAZARDS
As a result of the strong tsunami surge, the District’s dredge pipeline, which intersects the main navigation channel, sustained damage and currently presents a hazard within the entrance. Mariners are advised to not transit the entrance until all hazards have been cleared.
If you have a safety issue to report, please contact the harbor office by calling (831) 475-6161 during normal business hours.
